Student Health & Wellbeing

Welcome to Carnaby Rise Primary School’s National School Wellbeing Program!

At Carnaby Rise, we are committed to fostering our students’ social and emotional wellbeing through our newly implemented National School Wellbeing Program (NSWP). As part of this initiative, we have introduced the Student Wellbeing Officer role, which operates on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Our Student Wellbeing Officer facilitates small group sessions to enhance social skills and emotional intelligence. Additionally, they provide one-on-one interventions and lunchtime clubs designed to promote self-regulation and healthy socialisation. Wellbeing education continues in classrooms on Wednesdays and Thursdays, ensuring a comprehensive approach to student support.

In 2023, our wellbeing program was vibrant and engaging. Students participated in various activities, including mindful walking adventures, creating vision boards, and practising gratitude and kindness. Empowering affirmations and uplifting songs reinforced positive self-perception among students, and we are thrilled to continue offering these impactful experiences.

Our commitment to student wellbeing is evident through our diverse lunchtime clubs, such as Lego Club and mindful sessions, which provide opportunities for socialisation and relaxation. These initiatives, along with planned ongoing projects, demonstrate our dedication to nurturing the holistic development of our students.

Carnaby Rise Primary School, in collaboration with The Resilience Project, is dedicated to empowering students with essential life skills through the practice of Gratitude, Empathy, and Mindfulness (GEM) in their day-to-day lives.

In today’s world, where one in four adolescents grapples with mental illness, it’s crucial for us as a school and community to equip our students with the tools and knowledge to navigate life’s challenges. By integrating these practices into our curriculum and school culture, we aim to promote greater happiness and resilience among our students.

Through presentations, student curriculum, teacher resources, and digital content, The Resilience Project’s Education Programs offer comprehensive support for mental health in the classroom, staffroom, and family home. These programs focus on fostering positive emotions, as research indicates that experiencing more positive emotions leads to greater resilience.

The GEM framework—Gratitude, Empathy, and Mindfulness—is at the heart of our approach. By cultivating emotional literacy as a foundational skill, students learn to harness the power of gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness to navigate life’s ups and downs with resilience and optimism.

Our goal is to nurture compassionate, thankful, and respectful children and young adults who can counteract the natural negativity bias and recognise the positives in their lives. Together, we strive to create a supportive and uplifting environment where every student can thrive emotionally and academically.

Join us at Carnaby Rise Primary School as we prioritise our students’ social and emotional wellbeing, creating a supportive and enriching learning environment for all.
